Some of the best literature ever written grew out of the historical, cultural, spiritual, and intellectual developments and turmoils of the late 18th and early 19th centuries.  Up until quite recently, however, "Romantic literature" meant poetry and prose written by a few men, namely Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Shelley, Byron, and Keats.  This rather limited canon is unmistakably magnificent to be sure, but the scholarly and pedagogical efforts of such critics as Jerome McGann and Anne Mellor (among countless others) have opened Romantic studies to a wealth of "Romantic period" writing that reflects more accurately the diversity of styles, tones, themes, and structures comprising the poetry and prose written and read throughout the late 18th and early 19th centuries.  Below is an annotated list of resources for many Romantic period authors. I have tried to reflect this diversity, and if you know of or discover other pages I have missed, please e-mail me at dhogsett@nyit.edu.

The list below is arranged chronologically. Click the name of the author you are interested in or scroll down the page to browse the list. In addition to exploring Web resources, you can also purchase books by or about these authors by clicking the various book links.
